MWR POD filters have a metal spring inside to prevent foam from being sucked into the inlet.
The foam of MWR racing filters has a much more open structure than that of road filters, making maintenance time much shorter. Protection is at the same level as that of road filters, but for a shorter duration, making maintenance much more intensive. The maintenance frequency for racing motorcycle filters is every second race weekend. Therefore, these racing filters are NOT suitable for street bikes.
MWR road bike filters have a recommended service interval of once a year, regardless of mileage.
Even if you've done 80 km in a year, stick to the recommendations. The priority for the filter is that the foam doesn't dry out, that it remains “wet” with oil.
In countries around the equator, where temperatures and humidity are high, the frequency should be reduced to twice a year. Filters for racing motorcycles can be serviced at the normal frequency.
Only MWR biodegradable filter oil and biodegradable filter cleaner can be used to protect the filter against backfire.
